Seller Strategies Episode #3: How to Increase Order Value and Cross Sell

How to Increase Order Value

Welcome back to the latest edition of our Amazon Seller Strategy Series! Today we have a seller strategy hack that will help you increase your order value. It’s such an easy adjustment to your listing, you’ll wonder why you weren’t doing this before! As you probably know, the most successful Amazon FBA sellers are selling more than one product. And chances are, those products are related or fall under a similar category. So if a customer is interested in one of your products, why not show them everything you have?

In this video, Maria and Ervin are discussing all of the potential benefits of implementing this seller strategy. It’s as simple as adding a photo to your product’s gallery that shows all of the other products you offer. It’s so simple, it doesn’t even seem like a hack!

Take the example “chalkboard sign” mentioned in the video, and plug it into the Amazon search bar. One of the first sponsored products to come up is by the Amazon store VersaChalk.

The standout feature of this listing is that the 7th photo in their gallery shows all of their related products. If you add this feature, a customer will have the chance to add additional products to their order – right from you! And if you watched our last episode on Amazon coupons, this is also a great opportunity to offer a discount.

If your customer buys more than one product, offer the second product at a discount. This incentive will definitely have an impact on increasing your order value. And even if your products don’t compliment one another, you could still offer a discount if multiple units are purchased. If they buy 2 they get X amount off, buy 3 for X amount, etc.

Frequently Bought Together?

It’s also important to note, the more you cross-promote your products, it’s likely Amazon will link these products together. And this gives you a greater opportunity to control the “Frequently Bought Together” section. Usually, your product is added with another seller’s product to this feature, but you can potentially control part of that process the more you cross-promote.

Watch the video now to learn even more about improving your conversion rate and overall Amazon ranking. Also, there’s an opportunity to lower your PPC costs. All of these benefits from one simple hack!

Stay tuned for our next episode on our hidden trick to finding that next product to sell…

  1. Though there are sellers that are doing this, taking your advice may end up with a blocked listing.

According to Product detail page rules:
None of the following are allowed in product detail page titles, descriptions, bullet points, or images:
    Pornographic, obscene, or offensive content.
Phone numbers, addresses, e-mail addresses, or website URLs.
Details of availability, price, or condition.
Links to other websites for placing orders, or alternative shipping offers, such as free shipping.
Spoilers on Books, Music, and Video or DVD (BMVD) listings. This includes giving away plot details crucial to the suspense or surprise ending of a story.
    Reviews, quotes, or testimonials.
    Requests for positive customer reviews.

    1. We take Amazon’s TOS pretty seriously, but also realize there’s some flexibility. At most, a seller might be asked to take down a photo, but it’s not likely the entire listing will get blocked. Just be sure to practice good judgement and make choices you’re comfortable with!

  2. Isn’t this against Amazon policy? I thought they were very strict about what pictures you add to your listing; especially if you add a different product. It seems like this would confuse the customer.

    1. Hey David,

Our experienced sellers have found that by utilizing this tactic in the 7th photo, it doesn’t throw up a red flag to Amazon. It shouldn’t confuse the customer if the first 6 photos are super clear, and you specifically say the other products are not included but are available to add to their order.

      Hope that helps!
      Melissa

    1. Hey Kevin,

Short answer – not really. Amazon’s TOS is super focused on the first image or two that will be all over their site. By using this strategy in the 7th photo, it shouldn’t raise any issues. Worst case scenario, you might have to take it down. But our experienced sellers have had great results so far.

      Thanks!
      Melissa
